Ouch!  My Foot Hurts!

There are any number of causes for foot pain, and around a fifth of the world’s population will suffer from foot problems at some point in their lives.

Foot pain can have a major impact on our daily lives, so it is very important to get the pain evaluated and start treatment as soon as possible.

Foot pain may come on gradually or happen out of the blue, and can be attributed to a specific injury or have no obvious cause at all.

Living with foot pain is not easy as it impairs the quality of  your life. For instance, if there is an ache in your foot, you experience severe pain when you stand or walk. Our feet have one-fourth of our body bones. These bones along with several joints, muscles and tissues handle the weight of our body and helps us to sustain balance while we stand or walk.

Why Do We Experience Foot Pain

Nearly 17 to 42 percent of American adults encounter foot problems every year.  Most of these pain occur at the arch of the foot (in between the toes and the heel). The pain that occurs in the heel area is caused due to plantar fasciitis, which is the infection of the fascia (tissues).

Symptoms of Foot Pain

If you have plantar fasciitis, the pain caused can be extremely discomforting and gets worse in the morning as soon as you wake up. The pain also flares up after an active session of exercise. The pain gradually increases over time if left untreated. You may also suffer from a burning sensation at the bottom of your foot.

Foot Pain Treatment

General medications may give you temporary relief from foot ache, but physical therapy (PT) aims at preventing the cause from the root naturally with various equipment-free exercises. PT mainly includes muscle strengthening exercises that focus on increasing your physical activity.
